The Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung held an international symposium in Shanghai on the “Impact of the Global Sovereign Debt Crisis on Emerging Countries” on November 24th. The symposium provided a platform for an analysis of the roots and implications of the global sovereign debt crisis, and how to avoid or reduce related spillover effects.

SIFT VP Ye Xingguo made a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Dr. Masahiro Kawai, Dean and CEO of Asian Development Bank Institute, Clyde Prestowitz, President of Economic Strategy Institute and former US Trade Negotiator, Porametee Vimolsiri, Deputy Secretary-General of Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board Thailand together with experts from government advisory bodies, research institutions and universities in Germany, US, Japan, Korea, India, Thailand and China offered views from their respective perspectives
